How to get your automotive website in the top listings in Google and other search engines.

Do I need to optimize my website?
Search engine optimization or SEO is the process by which a web site is "optimized" making it more visible in search engine queries.
Unfortunately not all search engines work the same so test out your website on lots of different search engines like Bing, yahoo and others.
For example: If you are a garage or dealer who sells used cars or you have used cars for sale you’ll probably want your website to be listed in the top 10 results for Google when a user types "used cars for sale" or “used cars” into the search field. The higher the better you never know you could achieve the hot spot number 1 position.
Tip: The more common the word or phrase you are trying to gain search engine visibility for will determine how likely you are of gaining a top position. Choosing a phrase like “used cars for sale” is a popular search term and will take a lot more effort than something less common.
What is Backlinking, I here you ask?
Search engines "read" your website and they take into account the number of websites that link to your site, as well as the different types of sites that link to your website. The more relevance the backlink has to your website, the more impact it should have.
If a website has lots of incoming links from non relevant websites it will not be as useful to you in terms of search engine optimization as a website with relevant content. A few good links are better than lots of non related backlinks.
For example: If a website selling used cars links to your website this will give you a good chance of receiving a high position in search engines like Google and others. Like they say stick with who you know as opposites don’t necessarily attract.
TIP: Try and obtain as many relevant links from websites with a theme similar to your own, fewer good ones are better than lots of bad ones. Also remember the longer length of time a link remains on a website the more trusted it becomes, if a link disappears after a short period of time, search engines may think that this subject content is no longer relevant to your website.

Anchor text is essentially a hyperlink that takes you wherever the link is set to direct you.
Anchor text tells search engines, when they read your website, what the page is about. The proper use of anchor text can and should increase SEO for your website.
The importance of anchor text can mean that it's possible for an individual page within your motoring website to appear in the top section of search engines like Google.
What is link age?
The longer length of time a link remains on a website the more trusted it becomes, if a link disappears after a short period of time, search engines may think that this subject content is no longer relevant to your website.

Everyone wants to be no.1 for their chosen search terms and phrases, really it comes down to how much effort you are prepared to put in with regards what results you achieve.
You never know, you might get to be top of Google without really trying BUT be prepared to spend a lot of time and energy if you really want to get noticed.
